Purpose

The purpose of 21st Century Community-Learning Center Grant is to establish community-learning centers that provide students with standards-based academic enrichment classes and opportunities especially in math, reading and writing during out-of-school time. These academic activities are designed to complement the students' regular academic program.

Grant Training

Quarterly Statewide
Training and Site Visit

Training is necessary for the implementation of quality programs. Current Arizona Awardees of the 21st CCLC Grant have requested that the Arizona Department of Education provides technical support by creating networking opportunities.

Grantees that are interested in learning from local Arizona experts who are having success implementing quality programs are welcome to attend the "Quarterly Statewide Training and Site Visits". Arizona 21st Century Community Learning Centers program staff will share strategies that enhance the likelihood of successful outcomes for 21st CCLC programs. The visits will be posted on the ADE calendar of events and on-line registration will be required.

Application Information

The Arizona Department of Education must hold a competition for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grants. Schools public/private and faith based organizations are eligible. The focus of this funding is student achievement; programs are for students and their families and must be held during out-of-school time. Programs must take place in a safe and easily accessible facility. In addition awardees must serve students who primarily attend schools with concentrations of students from low- income families.

ABSOLUTE PRIORITY:
The absolute priority for eligibility is defined as "eligible entities that serve students who attend schools where at least 40% of the students qualify for free/ reduced meals"

Vision Team

The Arizona Department of Education has convened a Vision Team. This council will actively engage in the development of policies and /or procedures that would support the implementation of the 21st Century Community Learning Center After-School Programs(s). In addition, this advisory council will create a vision for Arizona regarding the future of 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant funding and programs.

Team members will also assist in planning efforts that move the vision forward of giving each child in Arizona access to quality after school programs that keep children safe while inspiring them to learn.
