MEGA's going Green!
The Arizona Department of Education Title I MEGA Conference is committed to environmental and social responsibility in the development of this event. Conferences, by their very nature, consume massive amounts of resources and we have implemented a number of ways to reduce our negative footprint on the planet.
Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse:
The goal in this year’s MEGA Conference’s program is to reduce the amount of wasted paper by asking attendees to print their own handouts. While a great deal of paper is still utilized when each individual prints his or her own handouts, literally thousands of pounds of wasted paper are eliminated.
Here’s how. . .
If a given session seats 120 people, then the Conference would print a minimum of 150 sets of handouts, in case the session is over filled. This session might only attract 50 people that leaves 100 sets of handouts of as much as 20 pages each - a total of 2,000 wasted pages from this one session alone. Multiply this by 10+ sessions and the result can be hundreds of thousands of pages of wasted paper.
Instead of printing a Conference program you will be able to plan your conference online. Using the day by day schedule and choosing your session and printing your handouts, you will be prepared to enjoy the conference without the weight of carrying around all that extra paper.
Your Conference tote is made to be re-used as a personal insulated tote. The folder is made of recycled paper which contains wild flower seeds. When the conference concludes, you can plant the folder and enjoy flowers in your garden. The water bottle is made of a biodegradable material. We encourage all attendees to vigorously participate in this program to eliminate reusable materials from our landfills.
Guide to Planning Your
Mega Conference Experience
You will find two ways to view the activities:
- A grid displaying sessions for all three days in a format that you are familiar with from the conference books in the past.
- A day by day schedule of all the workshop sessions that you will be able to have access to the description and any handouts that the presenter has provided.
To use the day by day schedule
- Click on the day (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday)
- Click on the personal planner and you can print a copy to plan attending the sessions that interest you.
- Click on the session titles and a printable session description will open providing the day, time and room when the session will be held.
- Towards the bottom of the page will be a link(s) of session handouts or url link, that the presenter has provided for you to print before coming to the conference.
Session handouts will be uploaded weekly as presenters provide them so please check on the session you plan on attending on November 16th to print any handouts you may need.
Please bring your printouts of schedule and session handouts
with you to the conference!
Thank you for supporting our efforts to Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse!
