Displaced Pupils Choice Grant Program

The Displaced Pupils Choice Grant Program awards grants to qualified students to be applied toward payment of tuition and fees for the educational and related services provided by a grant school. A qualified pupil is one who has been placed in foster care at any time before the pupil graduates from high school or obtains a general equivalency. Grants will be awarded in the amount of $5,000 or the total cost of tuition and fees charged by the grant school, whichever is less. Grants may only be redeemed by a participating qualified grant school.  For a list of qualified schools, please select a list below:

Qualifying Pupil Information

A child applicant for a displaced pupil choice voucher must fall into at least one of the following categories:

1) A child in a CPS case in which dependency as to the child was adjudicated as to both of the child's parents, and the child has been adopted or placed with a legal guardian. The adoptive parent(s) or legal guardian(s) make(s) the decision to apply for the voucher.

2) A child in a closed CPS case in which the child was voluntarily placed in foster care.

3) A child in a closed CPS case in which the court found the child dependent as to at least one parent and the child is now with a biological or adoptive parent or legal guardian.

4) A child must be enrolled in a K-12 program, or a special needs preschool program.

**Children currently in an in-home placement, those receiving services from in-home intervention and others in open cases are not eligible.

Qualifying School Information

To qualify as a grant school, the school must be a nongovernmental primary school or secondary school or a preschool for handicapped students that is located in this state, that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, handicap, familial status or national origin, that maintains one or more grade levels from kindergarten through grade twelve and elects to participate in this program.
