This is a phase 2 English Language Arts (ELA) professional development opportunity in collaboration with the Arizona K-12 Center that supports the content and instructional shifts that will impact classroom practice to ensure students are college and career ready.
Arizona Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts will require students in the 21st century to use technology for communicating and collaborating in new ways. Constantly evolving technologies and new 21st century frameworks for what students should know and be able to do present great challenges for today's teachers.
Join Nancy Frey, co-author of Literacy 2.0, as she describes precisely what students need to be taught to become proficient in the literacies associated with information and communication technologies. Learn how to access the many tools and technologies and seek practical classroom applications. From novice to experienced teachers, all participants will gain a greater appreciation for the power of technology to engage and motivate students and will be inspired by the examples of high-level student work.
Learn an instructional model that is particularly effective in supporting technological literacy, then move on to the specifics of teaching Literacy 2.0 skills related to acquiring, producing, and sharing information.
Learn skills such as using search engines efficiently, evaluating information found on websites, avoiding plagiarism, communicating with a wide audience, working collaboratively, and creating multimedia products.
Registration includes training, materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and breaks. All participants will receive the book Literacy 2.0, by Nancy Frey and Doug Fisher.
