Close Reading In the Classroom - Arizona's Common Core Standards English Language Arts Phase II
|
This one day workshop uses modeling and various activities to demonstrate a close reading routine teachers can use with students to help them become independent readers and thinkers about text. In addition to the reading routine, participants will learn how to select texts appropriate for close reading and write text dependent questions. Participants will also learn methodologies to support classroom discussion and writing about text. Participants will receive The Thinker’s Guide to How to Read a Paragraph- The Art of Close Reading by Paul and Elder and Text Complexity: Raising Rigor in Reading by Fisher, Frey and Lapp.
Registration and Breakfast at 8:00am Session from 8:30am-4:00pm

Please inform your Business Office of your registration promptly. A confirmation number may be required on the day of the event and should also be included on your purchase order. A registration fee is charged for all registrants, including those who do NOT SHOW and have not canceled in writing within 10 business days prior to event start date. All cancellations and or replacements must be received in writing within 10 business days prior to the first day of the workshop for a refund. *Exceptions may be made for emergency situations only up to the first day of event start date.
*At the discretion of Arizona Department of Education staff, 'emergency situations' are defined as: Illness, accident, etc.
Who Should Attend:
Teachers, district professional development trainers, coaches, regional representatives, ELA Trainer of Trainer participants, content teachers. Participants need to be extremely familiar with the Arizona Common Core Standards and Instructional Shifts. Participation in a Phase 1 training is highly recommended.
