Vocabulary in the 6-12 SEI Classroom**
**Optional as a Trainer-of-Trainers model of Professional Development (see website for more details). This foundations workshop will focus on building teacher knowledge and skills for explicit vocabulary instruction for ELLs while also developing a personal academic register. Participants will understand the components of a vocabulary plan/routine and the connection to reading. Students at this age readily learn words from engaging in oral conversation and through exposure to vocabulary when reading. A critical component of vocabulary development is building rich and flexible word knowledge. This training will demonstrate best practices for instruction using ELP Standards from identifying meaning and usage of grade specific academic vocabulary to distinguishing literal and intended meanings of figurative language. Participants will receive a vocabulary resource entitled: Creating Robust Vocabulary by Isabell Beck, Margaret McKeown, and Linda Kucan.

Registration cost is $75 per person. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Cancellation must be received in writing a minimum of one week prior to the event. After that date, you will be responsible for payment in full.

Conference attendees are required to park on the visitor side of the 3300 N. Central Avenue garage in spaces marked 'Visitor' and in open non-reserved spaces. Please bring your parking ticket with you to your conference for validation. It will be the responsibility of the attendee to pay the parking fee if their ticket is not validated. Parking is validated only for the 3300 garage.

Onsite registration will open at 8:00 am.
