Administrators Academy: A Brick-by-Brick Approach to Building Knowledgeable, Empowered Leaders in Special Education
Administrators Academy is a four-part, interactive coaching series designed to teach participants how to practically and effectively apply the legal requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

This academy is geared toward school leaders, such as principals and assistant principals, who want to better understand their role in the special education process; special education directors looking for a more comprehensive understanding of the intricate legalities involved in special education; and special education practitioners who are interested in the legal foundations and purposes of their jobs.

Participants, this intimate workshop experience will feature an in-depth analysis of your obligations under the IDEA. Presenters will build up your knowledge and confidence brick-by-brick by explaining your responsibilities as school and special education leaders through deconstructing and reorganizing the IDEA into coherent pieces, while allowing you to interact with the information to improve your comfort and familiarity with the material. The instruction you receive through this academy will provide you the necessary foundation to be thoughtful and skilled decision makers and practitioners in special education.

Institute presenters will be Kacey Gregson, attorney and Director of Dispute Resolution for the Arizona Department of Education, and Shannon Chavez, special education teacher and Arizona Department of Education Corrective Action Compliance Monitor.

Space is limited. Please register as soon as possible. Upon completion of registration, you will receive a confirmation number. If you do not receive a confirmation number, your registration was not completed. Payment is accepted by check or purchase order only. Either form of payment must be received before the registration deadlines.

Please inform your business office of your registration promptly. A confirmation number may be required on the day of the event and should also be included on your purchase order. A registration fee is charged for all registrants, including those who do NOT SHOW and have not canceled in writing within 10 business days of the event start date. All cancellations and or replacements must be received in writing within 10 business days of the first day of the workshop for a refund. Exceptions*may be made for emergency situations only up to the first day of the event.

*At the discretion of Arizona Department of Education staff, emergency situations are defined as: illness, accident, etc.

If you are new to this process or if your PEA has previously been unable to successfully reconcile your October 1 SPED census count in SAIS because of inaccurate verification letter count reporting, then this Part 1 session is for you!
