The Request for Proposals (RFP) for the ARRA EETT 21st Century
Classrooms competitive grant is now available. Grant applications and

Applications for the 2009-2010 Enhancing Education Through Technology
(EETT) (Title II-D) grant and the 2009-2010 EETT ARRA grant are being
accepted by the Arizona Department of Education through the Grants
Management System through Friday, December 11, 2009. If you have not
submitted initial applications for these grants, please do so by Friday,
December 11, 2009.
Why participate in Speak Up 2009?
Since fall 2003, the annual Speak Up project has collected and reported on the views of over 1.5 million K-12 students, teachers, administrators and parents representing over 18,000 schools in all 50 states. The Speak Up data represents the largest collection of authentic, unfiltered stakeholder input on education, technology, 21st century skills, schools of the future and science instruction. Education, business and policy leaders report using the data regularly to inform federal, state and local education programs.
By encouraging your stakeholders to participate in Speak Up you can:
Ensure that their voices are included in the dialogue about K-12 science, technology and math education.
Gather information from your students, teachers, school leaders and parents about key educational topics, including: educational technology, 21st century skills, science and schools of the future.
Send a strong signal that you value your stakeholders’ opinions.
Engage your stakeholders in decisions about the programs, services or legislation that will affect them.

New Arizona Educational Technology Standard Approved
On May 18th, 2009 the State Board of Education approved Arizona's new Educational Technology Standard. These new set of standards will replace the current Arizona Technology Standards that were adopted in 2000. Many thanks to all who participated on the standards revision committee or provided feedback during the process. A resource guide to support the implementation of the new standard is under development and should be available in the fall. Successful Connecting IDEAL with District/School Planning Held on May 11th, 2009
Over 150 individuals representing 30 different districts and organization attended the recent Connecting IDEAL with District/School Planning event that was held at the Black Canyon Conference Center in Phoenix on May 11th. District teams attended several sessions throughout the day that focused on connecting the resources in IDEAL to district and school plans. Some of the sessions topics were Embedding IDEAL into Instruction, Using IDEAL to Support Assessment, Enhancing Professional Development with IDEAL, IDEAL 101 and IDEAL and NCLB District Improvement Plan. Thank you to all who participated in the event on the 11th and learned more about leveraging IDEAL resources provided free to all school districts and charter schools throughout the state.
New Arizona Strategic Long-Range Educational Technology Plan Approved
On April 27th, 2009 the State Board of Education approved Arizona's Strategic Long-Range Educational Technology plan titled Transforming Education: Enabling Learning for All Arizona Students. This plan incorporates goals and recommendations that address the use of technology in student learning, preparation and development of educators to use technology effectively in the classroom, technology leadership, and providing the infrastructure to support the use of technology to enhance student achievement. A committee of stakeholders will meet in the next few months to determine expectations of the LEA/Charter alignment to the new plan and compliance with E-Rate and Title IID. 2009 Horizon Report (K-12) - Upcoming Trends Report
Horizon Report - K-12 edition is an ongoing research project that seeks to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have a large impact on teaching, learning, research, or creative expression within education around the globe. The 2009 K-12 report identifies collaborative environments, online communications tools, mobile devices, cloud computing, smart objects, and the personal web as trends that will have a significant impact on the educational process over the next 5 years.
