Main Location Users

This category of Common Logon users includes internal ADE users who are working for ADE at the main ADE building or nearby offices. This user may be a permanent ADE employee, a temporary employee, or consultant working on a specific project.

Initial Service

New employees are given basic familiarization with ADE computing and network systems as part of their initial employment orientation. They are given both a UserName and a single-use password at the time they begin work, either by their supervisor, who obtains it from the ADE Support Center, or by the ADE Support Center directly (upon presentation of photographic identification such as employee badge or driver’s license, or proper identification by their supervisor). Upon first use of the password, the employee will be required to (a) acknowledge their understanding of, and agreement to the terms of, the ADE Acceptable Use Policy; (b) enter a permanent password; and (c) enter a secret security word that can be used at a later time to confirm their identity.

(NOTE: When choosing a permanent password, do not use a password identical to your UserName. Avoid using passwords of easily obtainable information (e.g., birth date, social security number, telephone number, spouse’s name).

Password Resets

When ADE users lose or forget their password, the following ways are available to regain access to the Common Logon system:

1. The user may access the ADE web site, go to the Common Logon page and click on the “Lost Password” link. The user will then be asked for both UserName and secret security word. Then, upon successful reply, be given a single-use password. Upon first use of the password, the user will be required to (a) acknowledge agreement to the terms of the ADE Acceptable Use Policy; and (b) enter a permanent password. If this attempt is unsuccessful, the user may regain access in one of the following ways:

2. The user may go to the ADE Support Center and request a new single-use password, showing proper photographic identification where necessary, such as employee badge or driver’s license.

3. The user’s supervisor may go to the ADE Support Center and request a new single-use password for the employee.

4. The user’s supervisor may request a new single-use password for the employee using secure e-mail (from the supervisor’s e-mail account in the ADE system).

Upon first use of the password, the employee will be required to (a) acknowledge their agreement to the terms of the ADE Acceptable Use Policy; and (b) enter a permanent password.

Accessing Applications

Once the preliminary steps mentioned previously are taken, links to applications to which the user has been designated permission will appear after login information is entered in the Common Logon page. After accessing applications, refer to the specific Help file or user manual for application-specific information.
