Arizona Common Core Standards Leadership Institute: Connecting Instruction, Assessment and Evaluation The successful implementation of the Arizona Common Core Standards will depend on informed and proactive school leaders who understand the connection between the standards, instruction, assessment and evaluation.
This is a 3-day 3-part face-to-face series of professional learning for Instructional Leaders. This institute will explore the role of elementary and secondary school leaders in the implementation of Arizona's Common Core State Standards. Each day will focus on 3 statewide initiatives in order to show the connection and implications for school leaders in order to better support teachers. This professional learning opportunity is divided into three parts and participants who register will register for all three days. Registrants may sign up for 3 days in the fall or 3 days in the spring.

Part I (Day 1) Instruction and Arizona's Common Core Standards (ACCS) Part I of this training will cover strategies and techniques that can be used within schools by school leaders to help prepare teachers, students, and parents for the standards and upcoming assessments. Instructional shifts for Mathematics and English Language Arts will be covered as well as specific information on literacy, writing and mathematics instruction. Other topics will include student engagement, professional learning, technology, the EQuIP rubric, instructional conversations and reflection and creating an effective climate and culture.

Part II (Day 2) Assessment
Part II of this training will consist of a general overview of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Career (PARCC) and the consortium structure. Time will be spent on learning about the capacity planning tool used for the assessment, testing windows and timelines, test structure, blueprints, rubrics, item sample types, practice test plans, and Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs).

Part III (Day 3) Evaluation
Part III of this training will cover information relevant to the instructional leaderís with tools to help teachers. Time will be spent on the evaluation system, collecting evidence vs. opinion, including leading and conducting instructional conversations with teachers, professional learning design and planning, technology integration, implications of evaluation, and student learning objectives. The role of a principal will be explored in addition to strategies for creating a climate and culture that fosters shared management and time management.

Participants are highly encouraged to bring an electronic device to access digital resources. All three face-to-face workshops will include a virtual follow-up training after each session to allow participants to discuss training outcomes. Dates and times will be provided at the face-to-face trainings to accommodate participants.

Please note: All conference attendees are required to park in the visitor side of the 3300 parking garage in spaces marked Visitor, and in open non-reserved spaces. Please bring your parking ticket with you to your conference for validation; it will be the responsibility of the attendee to pay the parking fee if their ticket is not validated.

Please inform your Business Office of your registration promptly. A confirmation number may be required on the day of the event and should also be included on your purchase order. A registration fee is charged for all registrants, including those who do NOT SHOW and have not canceled in writing within 10 business days prior to event start date. All cancellations and or replacements must be received in writing within 10 business days prior to the first day of the workshop for a refund. *Exceptions may be made for emergency situations only up to the first day of event start date. *At the discretion of Arizona Department of Education staff, 'emergency situations' are defined as: illness, accident, etc.
